In addition to the new federal holiday of Juneteenth, June 19 is the date in 1864 in which USS Kearsarge famously sunk CSS Alabama off the coast of France in the Civil War. We’ll be rededicating the Kearsarge Memorial tomorrow just shy of 158th anniversary of this famous event.

Honored to join local, state and federal leaders today to rededicate the Kearsarge Memorial at Marine Park to those members of the U.S. Navy who currently serve, have served and have been laid to rest. The U.S.S. Kearsarge’s history is one to be remembered and celebrated.

Amazing re-dedication of the Kearsarge Memorial in South Boston today. The anchor was dedicated in 1930 to Navy veterans of the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and WWI. After a major restoration, it's re-dedicated to all Navy veterans.

We were proud to help out at yesterday’s Kearsarge Memorial rededication, providing chairs, helping with set up, & providing water on a hot day. And we’re thrilled to have a refurbished memorial to honor the service of US naval veterans.

The Battle of Cherbourg was fought #OTD in 1864, a naval engagement between the USS Kearsarge and the confederate raider Alabama. The Kearsarge had been tracking the Alabama for two years, and finally caught up with her as she was receiving repairs in the French port. #CivilWar
