SARAA Pilots from Oban Mountain Rescue Team were training at night this week. Night flying can be tricky, especially in Winter conditions and requires regular practice. They managed to capture some stunning pics whist flying

One scenario was an avalanche. We had to find a 1x1m target, crampons, helmet, carabiners, rope and an ice axe. Pilots were 300-400m from a steep gully rising from 430m to 700m. In real conditions, a very dangerous environment. The images show what capability a can bring.

Superb day one yesterday with some challenging scenarios high up in some steep gully’s simulating fallen climbers, an avalanche tip and a river incident. Let’s see what day two of our training weekend brings..

Really proud that Darryl Ashford-Smith, one of our pilots and our fundraising officer, has been selected by The Churchill Fellowship to research and develop the use of standardised procedures for drone .

Where's the casualty...? Zoom + immersive goggles = about 3sec of view of our 'lost and injured' cas before they disappeared back into the heather 600m from the drone and 1km from the pilot!

Our test Autel Robotics Evo Max 4T was used on its first operational flights with Tweed Valley MRT in a missing person search. The extended flight time allowed an extensive area to be covered and the worth of a superb zoom and the ability to generate coordinates was well proven.

Great to speak to Fiordland SAR in NZ last night on how we are organised, our experiences of setting up a drone unit and some of our search tactics.

All this is voluntary with just cost of time, we don’t charge anything for this within the SAR community. checkout.justgiving.com/c/3320753

The Autel Robotics Evo Max 4T has been impressing. Here is 30s from starting a search for someone. A hasty search with the IR draws attention, visual camera takes over, ranging laser fired and a position generated (380m away!) to pass to control to go and rescue.
