In this research we undertook in-depth interviews with 9 people who had been living with AMR (infections and colonisation) for more than a year; using Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (novel method) to explore their accounts and identify their support needs.

Our participants went on a journey. Starting off in a place of isolation, fear, and stigma - through becoming an advocate for their own health and wellbeing - leading some to become champions for people like themselves.

Much of the start of this journey could be overcome with better information and communication from healthcare professionals and providers.

Our participants described how health professionals struggled to explain AMR and the impact it could have on an individual.
