Do other grassroots groups, activists and citizens also detect an enormous chasm between Sinn Féin’s rhetorical commitment to protecting communities and the environment and the reality you’ve experienced on the ground?

“A tourist visiting the Norwegian Arctic archipelago of Svalbard has been fined more than £900 for getting too close to a walrus. Why did he do it? He was after a good picture, the police prosecutor believes.”

Just right. Nature is not a Disney film.

This is a sad and dark day for football. Saudi Aramco just bought the game’s biggest platform to sell its dirty fossil fuels and clean up its grim reputation. To protect the sport we love, we need to stop this deal.

5/10 Local authority councillors voted in favour of it, missing opportunities to scrutinise the officer's report. Although they are the mechanism for providing accountability in the planning system, some told me that they felt 'they had no choice' to vote for it ...

I cycled the carlingford greenaway yesterday. Unfortunately the entire length had been sprayed with glyphosate on both sides. I support the expansion and extention of cycle infrastructure but we need to be aware that they often go through environmentally sensitive areas.

Stranford Lough was also designated as a Marine Conservation Area back in 1995 without stopping fishing inside its boundaries. And we know how it all turned out with the destruction of their horse mussel reefs. Designation without real protection means very little.

“I know we're only two people among the many people who come through the park, but then we were only two that needed someone to come and respect us and say we're planning to do this. I just think it's not a very kind way to treat anyone.'

Enda McClafferty The relationship between the outdoors/walking and positive mental health is immensely beneficial. Charging people to access natural serenity and beauty is simply revolting. It's a tax on mindfulness and wellbeing. Shame on NewryMourneDown

Filmed a stone’s throw away from Narrow Water, this short clip shows how
Warrenpoint Harbour Authority are doing for tourism and outstanding natural beauty around Carlingford Lough and The Cooley Peninsula what 'Jaws' did for shark conservation and tourism on Amity Island.

“The problem isn’t the tourists. It’s a model that was built around – and with the connivance of – a business class that doesn’t want to listen to what needs to be done, and with a political class that serves that business class instead of serving all the citizens.”

At a recent NewryMourneDown committee meeting, Cllr Gareth Sharvin claimed the National Trust NI are “fully on board” with the Mourne Gateway/gondola project because they’ve signed a memorandum of understanding. However, as the article below highlights, this is clearly not the case.

“Greece has become the first country in Europe to announce a ban on bottom trawling in all of its national marine parks and protected areas. The country said it will spend €780m (£666m) to protect its “diverse and unique marine ecosystems”.” 👏 👏 🇬🇷
