New paper led by the fantastic Roshni Patel and Rachel Ungar: 'Increasing equity in science requires better ethics training: A course by trainees, for trainees.' This is work I feel so strongly about as having an impact.

This is such a critical message that I think gets lost in all the conversation about there not being enough ‘time’ or students being so busy already. Many students WANT this training - we have a responsibility to find a way to provide it

So excited to share our work describing our experience creating & teaching a class on genetics, ethics, & society! tl;dr- bioethics education on relationship between science/scientists/society is impactful, something students want, and important for structural change in our field

I just finished my APHMG keynote where I spoke about this course!! A couple hours earlier and I could have shared the final pub! Congrats Roshni Patel and Rachel Ungar. You had to overcome immense obstacles to put this together.

This Friday at the symposium on Undermining the Production of Race Science, I'll be sharing a collaborative project with Arslan Zaidi on race scientists' continued use of a flawed method, correlating genetic ancestry to IQ, to claim genetic superiority of Europeans.

Despite 84% of the world's population residing in low- and middle-income countries, these populations are vastly underrepresented in gut microbiome research. Here, we expand the microbiome atlas of Africa through a study of 1,800 women in four countries. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
