🔊🚨Finally! Out this week in Communications Earth & Environment our paper shows that as sea-level rise accelerates due to climate change, its multidisciplinary field of science has similarly expanded over the last 3 decades. A🧵on how this research came about and what we found. nature.com/articles/s4324…

We should never forget that low lying island states #sids face an existential threat from climate change. Precisely why we should take ambitious #ClimateAction and not sink into despair. We have agency! @adelle_SIDS is there to remind us in #IPCC .

Current policies make it likely that #globalwarming will exceed 1.5°C during the 21st century & make it harder to limit warming below 2°C. #IPCC's Synthesis Report underscores the urgency of taking more ambitious action. 👉 bit.ly/SRYRpt23

IPCC The IPCC is targeting energy production in the west, while ignoring China - solid evidence that this has nothing to do with climate, and everything to do with hurting western countries. ourworldindata.org/grapher/annual…

Analysis by NASA of high-resolution climate projections concludes that, if global temperatures keep rising and reach 2C above pre-industrial levels, people worldwide could face multiple impacts of climate change simultaneously, with serious consequences. climate.nasa.gov/news/3278/nasa…

Coastal impacts of sea level rise are not limited to inundation of low lying coastal areas (i.e. permanent flooding). Sea level rise will increase the frequency of extreme sea levels and associated episodic coastal flooding and coastal erosion. @ipcc Deltares IHE Delft 💧 Institute for Water Education

How much carbon can we emit while limiting warming below 1.5°C? It was very little and now it's even less. In a new paper in NatureClimate we update the IPCC carbon budget numbers with improved methods and new data. (1/n) nature.com/articles/s4155…
