Pools of blue reflect the calm clear skies over Crosby beach last night as the setting sun painted the horizon with streaks of warm gold. IronMenCrosby 🌤 #SeftonCoast

Figures in a landscape. The matchstick like silhouettes of the iron men appear against the patchwork of tidal pools reflecting the evening sky as dusk falls across a colourful Crosby beach yesterday evening. IronMenCrosby 🌤 #SeftonCoast

Today, Crosby beach. Weak sunlight filters through the clouds, sending flecks of light across the pewter sea. An incoming tide laps gently at the beach, a quiet murmur of water in the still air, only the piping call of a lone oystercatcher heard above the sound of the sea.

As the worst of Storm Amy passed mid afternoon, streaks of cirrus cross the wind torn sky. The swift flowing River Suir was rising by around 15cm an hour as it roared under the bridge at Kilsheelan, South Tipperary. Swans sheltered against the river bank despite the easing winds.

After the storm. The old stone bridge on the River Suir at Kilsheelan, South Tipperary, bathed in morning sunlight, the river lower now. The air is filled with the raucous calls of crows tumbling joyously in the clear blue sky, riding the still strong winds above the bridge.

A calmness and utter stillness in the air. Sea the colour of jade sits under a lowering sky of grey and white this afternoon at Killiney beach, Co. Dublin, Ireland.

It’s publication day for this magnificent volume, and we couldn’t be more proud, or more grateful to our three brilliant editors, Bernard O’Donoghue, Rosie Lavan and Matthew Hollis, and Faber Books. “Time to be dazzled and the heart to lighten”

A quiet mostly overcast afternoon at Crosby beach. The occasional glimmer of sunlight sends rays of light through the clouds and adds a sparkle to the out going tide.

The approaching storm. A sudden gust of wind as black clouds gather over the hills. Strong late afternoon sun on olive trees just before the light is extinguished. Near Granada, Spain yesterday.
