Getting a feeling that there’s someone out there just itching to criticise the new book on Roman London for the sake of it 🤔

Another glimpse of Roman London - the remains of the amphitheatre now underneath the Guildhall

Another London photo - Borough Market. There’s nothing known to be Roman there but plenty of Roman sites around the area and no doubt many Roman remains beneath the market

The site of a Roman temple in the middle of Greenwich Park. Not much to be seen on the ground. One of the sites covered in my new book on Roman London

A year ago, my research for my book on Roman London took me to different locations across the city - it was an exhausting few days. A Short Guide to Roman London is out next month

Finally got my mitts on these beauties, Dr Jo Ball & Dr Andrew Tibbs. I now have the most stunning archaeological TBR pile standing as high as my waist; all I need is an undisturbed year somewhere very quiet to read them all.

I was in London a year ago taking photos for my book on Roman London which is being published in a few weeks. This is the London Stone, possibly originally being part of a large administrative building 2000 years ago

This is amazing! Roman cavalry helmets found during the early 20th century excavations at Newstead. Surely some event must have led to them being abandoned and not found for almost 2,000 years!

The western ditch of Lurg Moor Roman fortlet overlooking the Clyde with Port Glasgow on the near shore and Helensburgh the far. Stunning views from this hidden away gem.

One of my favourite pieces, the Hawkshaw Head which was found in the middle of nowhere in the Scottish Borders. It may have been a prize and snatched from a Roman site. It’s suspected to be of a provincial governor

Roman Scotland It's very interesting that the lower leg didn't break off. You can see that it was cast separately from the thigh and then joined with a cast joint. This is typical of Roman casting technology.

Roman Scotland Imperial equestrian statues were placed in the public space, on forum. They were posten on high rectangle base. Since the leg comes from a gilded statue it can be assumed that it was an Emperor. It also seems more than live hight.
