Are you great with mapping and data visualisation? Can you squeeze data out of HERs? Do you love Roman stuff and dream about votive deposition? Then this could be the job for you. Come work with me on an AHRC/DFG funded project for a year. jobs.ac.uk/job/DHR818/pos…

For #FindsFriday, recorded this week with Portable Antiquities & Treasure an incomplete but rather lovely ornate Roman drop handle originally in the form of opposing dolphins. It's substantial size suggests it was attached to a large item of furniture. For full record: finds.org.uk/database/artef…

A nice way to pass the milestone of 1750 people having found archeology with us with the visit of staff from the regional office of the Ernest Cook Trust, landowners of our current enigmatic Roman site. They joined some regulars to experience being an archaeologist for a day

Finally made it to the BM to see Legion. Fulfilling a dream to see this object, the last surviving 'complete' rectangular scutum excavated from Dura, Syria and usually kept in Yale university. #Roman #Archaeology #Legion #Shield

I think it is personal privilege to finally 'meet' Regina of the Catuvellauni, wife of Barates from Palmyra, Syria. Her tombstone is currently in the BM Legion exhibition alongside some amazing artefacts such as the Dura shield #Roman #Archaeology

It is with immense sadness that I have to report the death of my very good friend, colleague, and co-author Dr Jon Coulston on July 6th after a brief illness. More information is available on his Facebook page: facebook.com/share/p/jd3GvB…

A #Roman glass amphora-shaped jug, made of a beautiful blue glass with white irregular decoration (& the odd spot of colour) - a beautiful piece of #AncientGlass made about 2000 years ago #Archaeology #RomanArchaeology

The tombstone of a #Roman soldier named Caius Marius, a cavalryman in the Legio I who died at the age of 30 after 15 years service in the #RomanArmy. The stone has a portrait of him on horseback in battle, holding a lance in his raised hand #EpigraphyTuesday #Archaeology

A pair of #Roman shoes from #Vindolanda (Britain), one of only a few pairs from the many shoes found at the site. The size suggests that they were men's shoes - a soldier stationed at the fort, maybe? - & they were thrown away or lost before they were worn out #Archaeology
