Surprising just how few academics know how to anonymise their manuscripts properly! Quick tip: In Word, go to Files-> Info -> Inspect Document (Check for Issues). Make sure you have 'Document Properties and Personal Information' selected and delete any results it shows.

Recently submitted a paper about care work to a 'top' journal, based on interviews with 125 care workers across 5 countries. The paper has been rejected because: 'we do not believe you are answering a health policy question of global relevance in your paper.' #AcademicChatter

Just doing some research for a book I'm writing. Found a recent paper from a prestigious 3* journal claiming ground-breaking insights into brand positioning. Yet at no point do the authors consider that a sample of just ~65 UG business students might be an issue...

What is the point of doing extensive revisions for a journal if the reviewers who asked for said revisions refuse to then re-review it and confirm whether what they had asked for has been done? Absolute madness. What a waste of everyone's time.

Reviewing for journals takes *time*. Doing it properly also requires a great deal of effort and (free) intellectual labour. This morning I have written 2k words to to explain my decision and why there are issues with the paper. Thing is, I now have no energy for my own work.

The badger cull is one of the great shames of modern Britain. So much needless slaughter of beautiful creatures based on the flimsiest evidence.
