Fortunate to spend my days with the Ss and staff at SCHSrvs. Today we co-created criteria for independent reading. It's a shift from teacher-generated success criteria & highly effective. When we commit to expert learning, we empower Ss to create their own definition of success.

Session 1 of our 4-part learning series kicked off today. Participants recommended books & created “read next lists”, explored ways to uncover Ss reading identity, wrote next to mentor texts, explored daily essential literacy practices and MORE. #RVSed

Cohort B participants embraced their reader-writer notebooks as we explored ways to increase Ss writing volume. Collaboratively analyzing mentor texts to identify writers moves using vertical non-permanent surfaces was a definite highlight. @pennykittle Peter Liljedahl #RVSed

Allington's Every Child, Every Day from @officialascd presents six high-quality experiences all Ss should have every day to become successful, engaged readers. The budget of time is limited. When planning, consider this essential question: Is this worth the time? #rvsed

Exploring the reading relationship our French Immersion Ss have has been insightful. It's definitely reinforced the importance of access to high-interest, engaging texts. Kudos to the FI Specialists on our team for their commitment to book access and to the dedicated FI teachers.
