Yonaguni a quarry? I mentioned this in 1999, in my book 'Voices of the Rocks'. However, there is no direct evidence (chisel marks, etc.) & no structures on the island built from the same stones. The “steps” are formed by natural fractures & the angles are not exact right angles.

I considered the yardang theory for the origin of the Sphinx over 40 yrs ago, & it does not make sense geologically (see discussion in 'Forgotten Civ.'). Solar outbursts & climate warming pumped moisture into atmosphere resulting in torrential rains & water weathering on Sphinx.
