In #Advent, the church stands between two proclamations: “God has come!” and “Come, Lord Jesus!” The first grounds our confidence that the second will be answered. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus shape our hope in the return, reign, and renewal to come.

Advent is a good time to remember that “biblical womanhood” must include the scene in Luke 1 when two pregnant women celebrate their new motherhood by passionately discussing the overthrow of every earthly empire. “He has brought down the mighty from their thrones.”

Every 3 months these evangelical men have Beth Moore trending because of their misogyny. Are you not tired, brethren? Shouldn't you be doing an Advent study or something?

I read something on Twitter about “respecting all cultures, and stop thinking yours is superior.” Fair enough, but I’m not respecting a culture that subjugates women or is intolerant of other religions.

The Speaker is a constitutional office, in line for the presidency. Should someone like McCarthy who objected to legal and correct election results be Speaker? Shouldn’t Democrats offer to join a few decent Republicans to support a non-election denying Republican for Speaker?

Fallen leaders, especially pastors, don't need "restoration." Absolutely NO pastor is SO gifted that the body of Christ NEEDS them back in ministry. Forgiveness? Yes. Restored to position? Absolutely not. They can take a seat in a pew. That's not a tragedy. It's a privilege.

The exploitation of Christ for worldly power in this era is unconscionable. Leave his name out of your evil. Non-Christian observers, please do not to look to cultural Christianity for what Jesus is like but to the Gospels, Acts & the NT epistles. Look to the sermon on the mount.

We have no right to consume happiness and wealth without also creating happiness and wealth. Contribute to the world around you.

Remembering Thomas Merton on the anniversary of his accidental death on Dec 10, 1968. Merton was a Christian monk, mystic, author, poet, & champion of nonviolence. Thomas Merton's life and writing have been a huge inspiration for me in my walk with Christ over the last 14 years.
