The addition of the 48mm virtual zoom is my favourite new feature. I love this camera on the native app, so good to have it here as well.

Baby hammerheads are back at Burleigh ... along with a lot of divers! with the BlackMagic camera app in 4K log, edited on iPad in Resolve.
It was a cloudy morning, the phone did well in this light (although I do use a dive light).

I had fun photographing this beautiful watch in the Burleigh rock pools this morning, as the sun peeked over the horizon.

Well, this is a simple video app and I like that I can configure my Rode mics from within it, and the dual cam. But I can’t see how to lock exposure/focus. If users have enough tech knowhow to configure a mic, surely they’ll want more control over video settings as well?

Here’s the video on YouTube. Some people asked to see it without Twitter compression, thank you for your interest. I’m still working on my colour grading skills.

Filming a surf contest with . 4K ProRes drained my battery by 9am, I attached external power and drive via USBC hub, and was good for the rest of the event. Audio is @rode VideoMicNTG via the AI-Micro. It’s all held together with the beastgrip cage.

Avoid flickering lights in your smartphone videos by changing your camera’s frame rate. This is clearly shot at 30 frames per second (default in iPhones) so it’s out of sync with the 50 hertz electricity cycle. Change to 25fps under Camera settings and no more flicker.

A walk in the woods: with Blackmagic Design CameraApp & Apple Log in a beastgrip cage. Edited on iPad in DaVinci Resolve using the BM speed editor (which I love) and the amazing The One LUT as display and input LUT. Very happy with this workflow.

Marked with ochre by a traditional custodian, the ancestral spirits of Jellurgal (Burleigh) now protect me here 🙂

Filming in the rainforest with beastgrip Beastcage and Black Magic camera app in Apple Log with The One LUT display app. It was very dark in the valley, looking forward to what the edit reveals.

Mobile-based edit suite: iPad running DaVinci Resolve connected to a speed editor, external monitor, external drive, power, and a Magic Mouse. The speed editor has roughly the same footprint as this 11” iPad so they both pack neatly into my mobile journalism back pack.
