Calling in the police to forcefully disperse peaceful, nonviolent encampments and protests is a political choice. And as a free expression organization, is a choice we must condemn.

As a free expression organization, we condemn the crackdown against pro-ceasefire and pro-Palestine protests taking place on campuses across the nation.

This May Day, we remember the Haymarket affair of 1886, where striking workers were massacred by police. Now, 138 years later, militarized police again brutalize those standing up for human rights and against injustice.

Protesters UW–Madison are facing serious charges, inc. battery to a police officer.

These charges often can't be substantiated: Last year in Tampa, cops tried to press 'battery to an officer' charges against protesters. All felony charges were dropped.

It's May Day! Reminder that union rights are First Amendment free association rights.

And everyone who enjoys free expression in the United States owes a tremendous debt to the labor movement.

The @TXDPS can't seem to make up its mind about what bogus charges to bring against a FOX 7 Austin photographer who they arrested for doing his job covering campus protests.

Here's an idea for them: Drop these latest sham charges and don't bring new ones.

Add another university impeding student journalists into the mix.

Student journalists: if you think a press pass would be helpful, contact IWW Freelance Journalists Union. They'll get you a press pass for free.

for The Nation, I wrote about Emory, Cop City, and the police violence and brutality aimed at righteous protest. long story short: when you put all your resources into militarizing policing, militarized police become the answer to everything. thenation.com/article/archiv…

These young journalists are doing their profession proud.

But it is SHAMEFUL they have to do it at all. What kind of educational institution calls in police on their own students?!

We've argued against the 1033 program for years, which transfers hand me downs from the US military to domestic police departments. Cops have no business with MRAPs built for IEDs in Afghanistan.

It's a bleak day for First Amendment rights when a college thinks it needs to send in hundreds of cops to take down student protesters.
