1) The Minister is appointing a ‘Special Advocate for Survivors’ & the recruitment campaign starts tomorrow. A quick🧵to unpack this.

🚨First, even if the perfect person is hired for this position, it’s *not* the same as having affected people at the decision making table.

The Citizens' Assembly recommended that Article 40.1 of the Constitution should be amended to refer explicitly to gender equality and non-discrimination.

They also found the Constitution should be changed to protect all family life and should not be limited to the marital family

This isn’t the first time that adoption/MBHs/related issues have been used to pit one marginalised group against another.

The Minister deserves criticism for his handling of ‘historical’ abuses. But this from Aontú isn’t allyship.

I welcome this but what’s needed is workers rights. A stipend is no good when you need to take sick leave/parental leave etc. PhD research is work and it need to be recognised and paid as such.
