Talking Heads - Little Creatures (Sire, 1985). The sixth album - and fifth in my ranking of their studio albums. A brave return to songs over sonics - only some of the songs are weak, especially 2&3 on Side 2 - Byrne at his most irritating. Cheerful stuff, otherwise! #5albums80s1

#5albums80s1 #NowPlaying Bought this very record for £3.99 from JAT Records in Wakey when I was 15. My first U2 record. With the possible exception of AB, it’s still my favourite. Thrillingly concise.

Counting down 10 to 6 Number 10 This was the soundtrack to my Inter Cert summer and while I love it they weren't quite there yet. I always found the production a bit too clean. The interplay between the guitars on Monkeys hinted at the greatness to come. #5albums80s1

Number 9 To me this is more like a symphony than an album. A collection of stunning pieces of music knitted together to form a beautiful tapestry. Liz Frasers Another Day is absolutely breathtaking and is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. #5albums80s1

Number 8 After a fairly disastrous decade Neil rallied the troops and pulled it out of the hat in the final moments with one of his strongest records. Crime In The City is a cutting tirade against the music industry and probably David Geffen in particular. #5albums80s1

Number 7 First album on a major label and they were absolutely on fire. Grant Hart in particular with 3 of his best songs. While it's their best produced album it's let down by 2 songs that just drag on for too long which is why it's not in my final 5. #5albums80s1

Number 6 Very tough choice here. This is an absolutely incredible record. Probably their last incredible record. I saw them touring this and they were just on a different level to everyone else. I just can't fit it in to the final 5. #5albums80s1

Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back (Def Jam, 1988) One of the top ten hip hop albums of all time, filled with undying energy, invention, and power. Even ham-fisted tracks like She Watch Channel Zero barely dent its battle-hardened majesty. #5albums80s1
