Territorians have been contacting me saying their local representatives aren’t willing to stand up alongside them to protect the area.

More housing is urgently needed but they argue there’s lots of other land Defence Housing Australia can use that won't destroy threatened species habitat.

If Labor is serious about building trust in the community, it must act swiftly to make good on promises to halt extinctions and fix our broken federal environmental laws in this term of government.

This morning bulldozers arrived at Lee Point after the Enviro Minister decided to allow destruction of habitat vital to endangered species like the Gouldian Finch.

Labor promised to fix these laws, but have delayed reform indefinitely.

Trees & their hollows are homes for wildlife, including threatened species such as the Gouldian finch, black-footed tree-rat & northern brushtail possum. Today they're being destroyed at Lee Point in Darwin, after @Tanya_Plibersek's approval. Ecocide in action. Environment laws?

The bulldozers destroying habitat for endangered Gouldian Finches, black-footed tree rats and over 270 bird species at Binybara/Lee Point.

This is a place beloved by thousands of people across Darwin. Its loss is a failure of our environment laws, and deeply upsetting.
