WA’s south-west - known for its wet weather - is running dry. A severe downward trend in average rainfall has caught residents relying on rainwater supply off guard. Experts say the region is the ‘canary in the coalmine’ for climate change impacts.

How can Coalition & Labor govts not only stand by & watch the wholesale destruction of the Great Barrier Reef but actively lobby AGAINST listing it as 'in danger' AND keep subsidising & approving the fossil fuel projects that are killing it?

Territorians have been contacting me saying their local representatives aren’t willing to stand up alongside them to protect the area.

More housing is urgently needed but they argue there’s lots of other land Defence Housing Australia can use that won't destroy threatened species habitat.

If Labor is serious about building trust in the community, it must act swiftly to make good on promises to halt extinctions and fix our broken federal environmental laws in this term of government.

It's time to prioritise the places and people we love.

Our federal environmental laws are broken.

This morning bulldozers arrived at Lee Point after the Enviro Minister decided to allow destruction of habitat vital to endangered species like the Gouldian Finch.

Labor promised to fix these laws, but have delayed reform indefinitely.

Trees & their hollows are homes for wildlife, including threatened species such as the Gouldian finch, black-footed tree-rat & northern brushtail possum. Today they're being destroyed at Lee Point in Darwin, after @Tanya_Plibersek's approval. Ecocide in action. Environment laws?

The bulldozers destroying habitat for endangered Gouldian Finches, black-footed tree rats and over 270 bird species at Binybara/Lee Point.

This is a place beloved by thousands of people across Darwin. Its loss is a failure of our environment laws, and deeply upsetting.

A climate & ecological emergency

'Perth’s gardens have been kept alive with desalinated water over the driest 6 months in the city’s history, but beyond the reach of sprinklers native vegetation from Kalbarri to Albany is dying from a summer without end'

“This is a crisis. It’s our hottest & driest summer ever recorded in WA. It’s having devastating impacts on our environment. This is a climate & ecological emergency. We urgently need the state gov to start acting like its one, incl no support for new fossil fuels” - WA Forest Alliance

Western Australia’s hottest, driest summer on record. Forests collapsing & farmers suffering. Conditions climate scientists warned of decades ago if we kept burning oil & gas.

And yet the Roger Cook ALP gov wants more fossil fuel projects!!

This is climate change.

After the hottest summer on record in Western Australia, forests & bushland in the south west are dying. It's devastating wildlife.

We must urgently transition away from fossil fuels and double down on protecting nature.
