Here we examine the recognisable emotional information in a large set of “wild” facial behaviours. Very proud of Houqiu Long and 🧠@nataliepeluso.bsky.soci for leading this project. And thankful for the opportunity to work with Shruti Japee Chris Baker nature.com/articles/s4159…

Pandemics hexalogy: Following is a series of work done by my wonderful group members during the pandemics. When I read them, I cannot not think of the days of masked faces and 2D meetings. Reza Azadi Rosa Lafer-Sousa Elia Shahbazi Simon Bohn Emily Lopez Timothy Ma Jessica Taubert

An amazing study sheds light on why faces are particularly salient stimuli for primates: SC neurons have a stronger response to faces compared to other objects, which is notably faster than what we had anticipated for feedbacks from visual cortex.Great job! Gongchen Yu Leor Katz

Excited to share our new work “The whole is in the parts: non-holistic object parts predominate face-cell responses to illusory faces” with @kaspervinken and Marge Livingstone! biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh…

Fantastic paper by Mark Histed-🧠 Lab using calcium imaging and optogenetics. The results emphasize the pivotal role of recurrent connectivity in the visual cortex for processing sensory information. This, once again, challenges conventional feedforward models of the visual system.

Faces elicit a particular pattern of eye movements from humans and monkeys. Here, we examine the role of face-selective cortex in this remarkable behavior. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn… I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to work with this team! Reza Azadi Arash Afraz and others
