That is why I am thankful that their recent engagement has led to our commitment that in the budget I intend to submit this August, our office will propose additional funding for the expansion of our Group Violence Intervention strategy.

This is the beginning, not the end. These policies are important. Once implemented, we will have a better city than before. But radical social change can never be diminished into an exercise of simply checking a few boxes and claiming victory.

This is the work of many faith leaders in this city: real change in police policies and new programs to reduce gun violence! wishtv.com/wp-content/upl…

➢ Increase the maximum monthly SNAP benefit by at least 15 percent. #DidYouKnow? Every $1 increase in SNAP generates more than $1.50 in economic activity. Increasing SNAP benefits is not just the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do #OurFaithOurFuture

➢ Expand Pandemic Electronic Bank Transfer (P-EBT) to all states through the summer. #DidYouKnow? Child hunger is rising. Feeding America estimates that the number of children facing hunger may rise to 18 million, or 1 in 4 children overall due to COVID-19. #OurFaithOurFuture

I wish the city would have waited to launch their public safety plan until after they met with the clergy and community leaders. Our crime prevention plan is strong and has been battle tested over time.

Many of you were hoping for a clear renunciation of Trump, like this isn't the country you thought it is. He received 70,000,000 votes in part: anxious people look for seemingly strong leaders. Millions more votes because he just "beat" COVID. Don't give up on your neighbors!

Jim Higginbotham (@revdocjim) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Yes, the vote is about White Supremacy and the "end of Christendom." But many people don't really vote for ideology but part of a group, and aspects of character: Trump seemed stronger to anxious people. Don't give up on your neighbors: they're unsettled, just in a different way!

Can't understand why 70 million voted for him? We live in an anxious world so we look for strength and answers. We're groupies who follow the pack. Don't Give Up On Your Neighbors! #DontGiveUpOnYourNeighbors #wereinthistogether

The prison industrial complex denies prisoners the affirmation of humanity and dignity of life. It prioritizes profit and neglects people. It’s past time to reimagine the world we live in and disengage carceral responses to harm done. Abolish the death penalty.

A new special issue of JPT is available, which engages "the realities facing Black and Brown people in the United States and offer recommendations for individual and communal interventions" as guest editor Nicholas Grier states.

In the latest issue of JPT, Joshua Morris offers an evocative article on care to veterans' moral injury as counterhegemony. Editors Samuel Lee & Danjuma Gibson state, "Pastoral theologians have moral obligation to speak into the times." This new issue will help us fill that call.

We'll learn from those inside and outside our Society, speaking prophetic truth to our apocalyptic world and ivory-towered privilege. We've invited a range of practitioners from various spheres to aid us in articulating a public, pastoral theology of viral care and viral justice.

If the US would stop making ‘public safety’ synonymous with ‘white comfort’, we might have a chance to fix our broken systems.
