No matter what branch they serve, every member of our nation’s military is sworn to protect and defend our country. Today we honor the sacrifice and service of the members of our armed forces.

Emergency medical services play a vital role in keeping our communities safe. We are upping funding for emergency vehicles because first responders can only do their jobs if they have the equipment they need to be effective.

Bees are essential keeping our environment healthy and our farms productive. By ensuring that Illinois bees continue to thrive through putting resources towards restoration of land we are helping combat climate change and secure the economic future for Illinois agriculture.

Illinois is home to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, the U.S. Navy's only boot camp since 1993. Great Lakes is a shared experience for all U.S. sailors--the place where they all began their service in America's Navy.

Illinois is home to seventeen species of turtles in our forests, prairies, ponds, lakes, and rivers. One is our state reptile: the painted turtle, which has a rare blood adaptation that allows it to tolerate the freezing temperatures it encounters in the Midwest.

House Democrats are paying tribute to the courage of past servicemen and women who never returned home. They gave up their lives keeping their country safe, and deserve remembrance for that sacrifice.

Literacy is the foundation for a good education, a successful career, and a lifetime of learning & enjoying books. We are working for higher literacy rates with a new measure that brings evidence-based support to teachers helping students with below-average literacy skills.

We are delighted to share that the Irving Park Community Food Pantry has been awarded a reimbursement grant from the City of Chicago's Community Development Grant program of $1,035,017 to help the pantry construct a new home to permanently house our operations!

Over the weekend the Illinois General Assembly passed a balanced budget. This budget is crafted to be fiscally and socially responsible. More seniors can stay in their homes since the total household income limit was increased to $70,000 for certain exemptions.
