Today marks 100 years since the birth of Margaret Thatcher. Among her legacies: the Right to Buy scheme — one of the most damaging privatisations in modern history that has fuelled today’s housing crisis. #MargaretThatcher #RightToBuy

Which is the most absurd? A stranger owns your house and you have to pay them personal profit on top of housing costs OR The council owns your house and you pay only the amount it costs to run (much cheaper) with any profit going into the local council to fund local projects

“For right-wing populists, the cost of living crisis is the gift that keeps on giving, allowing them to blame the experience of declining living standards on migrants and perceived ‘outsiders’.” Our Director Mathew Lawrence in The Guardian 🔗👇 theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

The Eades in Walthamstow - two relatively newly built blocks in an area of massive housing need. But when I pass by at night, almost all the lights are off. Where is everyone?

If you’re a private landlord who thinks it’s acceptable to rent out slum housing that puts your tenants’ health and safety at risk, you shouldn’t just lose the right to be a landlord - there’s a strong case that you should be behind bars. The renters rights bill is rebalancing

Thank you to Housing Secretary Steve Reed for a fantastic speech, for celebrating with us, and for speaking to renters and sector professionals. We look forward to working with you as we continue to work towards a safe, secure, and affordable private rented sector.

109 kids are falling into poverty every day because of the two-child limit. The government must scrap it for all children. Please share.

We were delighted that Gordon Brown addressed our 60th anniversary event yesterday. In his speech, he said: 'One group of people who have suffered the biggest cut in living standards is the poorest families in our country, partly because of the two-child rule.' 1/2

Since the ban on ‘no fault’ evictions was first promised in 2019, over 100,000 private tenants have had their lives torn up by a Section 21 eviction. Renters need to know when the ban will actually come into force. It can't come soon enough. crisis.org.uk/media/tn1i1hjf… Crisis

Last month, the Renters' Rights Act became law! We recently celebrated by bringing together the campaigners, politicians, and renters who have worked towards this moment for a decade. Here's what they said about why this change is so needed 👇

We’ve joined 100+ others in calling for the government to fully scrap the two-child limit. Every child deserves the best start in life. By fully scrapping the two-child limit the government can deliver a decisive shift in children’s opportunities, and in the UK's potential.

Organisations representing doctors, nurses, teachers, social workers and health visitors, as well as housing experts and anti-poverty charities, all agree that the government should abolish the two-child limit in full to turn the tide on child poverty. bbc.co.uk/programmes/l00…
