After working with hundreds of job-seekers (GenZ-Boomers), I'm convinced this should be required coursework in college: - Negotiating - Handling Rejection - Navigating Work Politics - Financial Literacy - Emotional Intelligence - Personal Branding

If you’re interviewing at a company and it looks good. Keep looking. Doesn't matter if you land a final interview and everyone says how great you are. Too many people get attached to one company. Remember, they're courting 2-3 other people they also invited to a final round.

Life changing career opportunities happen all the time just by following up with busy people. In many cases, the nudge helps put it back on their radar. More follow up = more opportunities.

If you don’t get an offer it doesn’t mean you did something wrong. The biggest mistake people make after getting rejected is severing all ties with the company. You’ll be surprised how staying in touch leads to an offer down the road. A lot of times “no” just means “not yet.”

What you can’t control in the hiring process: - Recruiters & hiring managers - Other candidates - Companies What you can control: - How you prepare - How you show up - How you respond Control the controllables. The rest is just noise.

Idea for companies doing layoffs: You should be disqualified from any ‘best place to work for’ lists/surveys for at least one year following…and if they’re handled poorly, that disqualification extends even longer. h/t Colleen McCreary (Head of HR at Credit Karma)

One interview can make up for the rest that didn’t go well. One email response can make up for those that went unanswered. One offer can make up for the companies that never gave them. Don't let rejection stop you. It takes one moment/person to change everything.

I've done hundreds of real & mock interviews this past year. Observation: many second-guess themselves when answering interview questions. If you're not confident in what you're saying... The interviewer won't be either. Having conviction goes a long way.

Remember, when you interview for a job You're not just evaluated during the *interview* You're also judged on: - email communication (pre & post-interview) - how you treat people (receptionists, recruiters, etc.) - conversations you had w/ other employees - Thank You note

There are no 'right' career paths. You can: - get an MBA - start a company - move to another city - manage a side hustle - take time off to travel - go from IC to manager - work at cos like Google, Meta Or do none of those and be ok. Run your own race. Not someone else's.

People chase after jobs at companies Google, Amazon, Meta. But should chase after: -> taking PTO without feeling guilty -> trust vs. micromanaging -> supportive managers -> growth opportunities -> learning new skills Look past 'the brand' to focus on what matters most to you.

Friendly reminder: If a recruiter reaches out about a job and you’re not interested, recommend someone else you know. Especially with layoffs surging to start the year. Want to help? Create opportunities for those who don’t have them.
