Our government is complicit in the slaughter of innocent people in Gaza.

Today, we filled Parliament Square to demand a permanent ceasefire and an end to arms sales to Israel.

We are a movement for peace — and we aren’t going anywhere.

Israel is still bombing Gaza,still starving Palestinians,still planning a major assault on Gaza. The UK Gov should make clear it will not support any Israeli 'response', support all UN efforts to de escalate and finally place real pressure on Israel to end the genocide.

But Western leaders including our Government who continue to support Israel, grant it impunity and sell it weapons
are responsible for building the pathway to a war that endangers everyone. The root cause of all of this is ongoing Western support for Israel's oppression.

Netanyahu has sought a direct war with Iran for years, and provoking this wider conflict will give him cover to continue the genocide in Gaza. Iran' s tyrannical rulers bear responsibilty for their own illegitimate actions and launching an assault that risks wider conflagration.

That attack came at a moment when Israel was under increasing international pressure. It is clear that Israel intended to provoke an Iranian response, with the hope this would bolster Western suppport and create a wider regional war.

Those of us demanding a ceasefire for months warned of the dangers of such an escalation. Our Government ignored those warnings, greenlighted Israel's genocide, and then failed to condemn Israel's attack on the Iranian Embassy.

This is an astonishing story in today's Observer...
