I'm bingeing pre-horror Hammer at the moment - this film has one of the best opening credit sequences ever! It's a fun comedy too, with a great performance by Medwin. Dr. Deborah Allison

I'm thinking now of all the Gena Rowlands walks that I love. The jittery wanderings of A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE. The determined struts through the streets of NY in GLORIA. The tragicomedy of her lugging suitcases across tarmac in LOVE STREAMS. She was in a league of her own.

Kenneth Griffith made such a great villain in The Shop at Sly Corner that George King cast him in Forbidden, a post-war noir set in Blackpool funfair. This month's #ProjectingtheArchive BFI Southbank 22 Aug 6.15 - now in NFT1 due to popular demand! Image #BFINationalArchive

Following the recent debacle surrounding the beautiful 1929 façade of Sauchiehall Street’s former ABC/Regal Cinema, may I ask you to take a moment to sign this petition to save listed Scottish buildings from demolition. Thank you!

Elephant and Castle isn't the nicest part of London so I always look out of the bus window when I get here and fleetingly imagine I'm in Chelsea.

When I wrote to Martin Scorsese during the pandemic, asking for some formative British films, he kindly responded with a list of 50 of his personal favourites. Tomorrow, the season of films we hand picked from from that list kicks off at BFI Southbank. tinyurl.com/mwn3wsed

Fabulous evening watching StudiocanalUK's restored version of The Third Man, exactly 75 years after its original release! And with the amazing Angela Allen sharing memories of post-war Vienna beforehand.

I'm researching one of my favourite little known filmmakers for a talk later this month. Count Theodore Zichy also took some great portrait photos, like this one of Arthur English in 1954. Original held by National Portrait Gallery

The Women's Library LSE holds the collection of British star Chili Bouchier. Thanks to the terrific staff for showing me her scrapbooks in prep for my screening of Carnival BFI Southbank on 10 Sept @ 6.15.

I finally managed to see the Shirley Russell focus Fashion and Textile Museum and detected echoes of Doris Zinkeisen's costume for Chili Bouchier in the futuristic look Twiggy wore in The Boyfriend. Come and see more fabulous costumes in Carnival (1931) BFI Southbank 6.15 on 10 Sept.

Back in 1932, cinema staff didn't just sell over-priced popcorn - they had to promote films in inventive ways! Here are some creative costumes and displays for Carnival, showing from 35mm BFI Southbank 10/9 6.15. tinyurl.com/mrwyndsz

Hard to believe these guys are both about to head off to university (no. 1 son took a couple of years out of education). Where did the years go?

Seeing Starve Acre this week reminded me of this. I worked Young Vic at the time of this magical show by Rod Argent, but the hare was found and it didn't reach the West End. I kept this costume sample as a memento but not sure what to do with it. Any ideas?

Just to be clear, rumours that I programmed Poil de Carotte / 🥕 Carrot Top - screening at BFI Southbank tomorrow at 15.00 - in celebration of a certain famous royal red-head’s birthday are entirely untrue! 🎞 Silent London 🎞 Stephen Horne 🎬 South West Silents 🎬 silentfilmcalendar British Silent Film Festival
