I explore existing transportation infrastructure and how it could be redesigned for people using all modes. Views are all my own.

To make coffee at home with green beans you need:
An oven
A baking sheet
A container to brew
A filter

That’s it. 15 min to roast a batch that lasts a week. 5 min to grind/brew a cup.

The idea that the default is car-centric design and anything that changes that is “artificial” has no basis in reality. Any plan is “artificial”. This is thinking that is biased by the status quo and lacks any foresight into what we need to move forward.

Constraining the automobile is exactly what we must do. Failing to recognize this means endlessly building wider roads.

Decisions like this are really disappointing to see. What vision do our leaders have for our cities? Are they listening when every expert says the status quo simply doesn't work going forward? Who does this serve?

I think the bigger issue here is that these lands are used for the ex and other “temporary” events that need lots of flat land. I’m not saying there isn’t a better land use that could accommodate this but it’s definitely a bit tricky.

This has always felt like the most overblown tech complaint. The battery in the mouse lasted about a month so when you get notified it’s low you could just charge it when your finished using it. There is literally no issue.

People online thinking Toronto has bad transit by North American standards because it’s one of the few North American cities where a large percentage of people use transit often enough to actually discuss and complain about it a lot online:

I'm sure they would say something like 'not beside me!' or 'Don't do it next to my back yard'. They could probably figure out something more catchy.

There is really a total dichotomy in North-American traffic management practices: they believe you can apply them on a greenfield, highly engineered suburban road network, but there is nothing that can be done to shape, control, manage traffic conflicts in the legacy grid.

Evolution: Argyle/Ossington in Toronto (2018, 2020, 2021, 2023)
(in case you're ever concerned that a 6m wide road 'doesn't have enough room for cycling')

I've mapped locations where cyclists are either at least 15% of traffic or where there are more than 1500 in a day. It shows how even downtown, where there are lots of cyclists, they stick to where there are lanes. It's useless to count cyclists before a route is installed.

Hey Toronto FC, with your proximity to the Martin Goodman Trail, you should encourage people to bike to the game. Better bike parking and maybe a bike valet would really help as well!

I’m happy to see other cities (and my former hometown) adopting quick-build separated bike lanes in more places. I just don’t understand why we continue to see the flexi-post model when Toronto figured out how to add concrete barriers long ago.
