This week is probably another watershed moment in wildfire alongside the wine country fires, the camp fire & red sky day in SF. We really need to ask ourselves how we let things get this bad, and do something meaningful about it.

An extremely dangerous situation is unfolding in southern California tonight. Stay aware of your environment and leave immediately if asked to do so by your local emergency officials. Forecast: Widespread DAMAGING WIND and EXTREME FIRE WEATHER for most of Los Angeles/Ventura

Friends in LA, download watch duty (watchduty.org) and if you’re downwind (south west) of either fire consider leaving sooner than you might otherwise. Gridlock happens quickly in evacuations and gets compounded by people abandoning cars.

How to solve wildfire: 1) Forest & fuel management (need to 100x what we do now in terms of acreage per year) 2) Rapid detection & initial attack (camera + satellite detection with <10 minute drone suppression response) 3) Home & community hardening
