2/2 'In particular, the World Bank should be doing more to support countries in raising taxes progressively and investing in public services, rather than pouring energy into boosting private finance,' said Oxfam Washington DC's Kate Donald.

Now available to watch. Our Oxfam International panel on remaking global economic governance for a post-neoliberal era. With Rana Foroohar Adriana Erthal Abdenur and Ndongo Samba Sylla/nssylla.bsky.social youtube.com/watch?v=n6SERM…
Rich countries espouse active industrial policy at home while continuing to impose outdated policies abroad.
Rana Foroohar's opinion piece in today's Financial Times is a must-read.

Massive faculty walkout at Columbia University opposing the university’s decision to call in NYPD on Palestine solidarity protests:
Amazing combination- Brazil's Finance Minister, bringing taxing the rich to the G20 agenda for the first time, with Bernie Sanders and Ilhan Omar championing this in the USA- a tax Joe Biden has also called for. The US needs to back the Brazil proposal to tax the rich at the G20.
I signed this statement from Columbia University faculty condemning in the strongest possible terms the University's suspension of students engaged in peaceful protest and their arrest by the NYPD. We demand suspension and charges be dismissed immediately and expunged:
.Ishaan Tharoor has written an excellent piece in the The Washington Post summarising the anger & frustration of the Global South with the West’s domination & weaponisation of institutions of global economic governance.
The 'new' Washington consensus looks a lot like the old one.🔥Ishaan Tharoor:
Grieve Chelwa on how IMF policies risk another lost generation
Ndongo Samba Sylla/nssylla.bsky.social on IFIs' destructive obsolescence
Adriana Erthal Abdenur on rich cos pushing industrial policy at home & austerity abroad

I attended Columbia University Law School and currently teach human rights advocacy here. Deeply ashamed of this institution today.
Greatest appreciation to Bernie Sanders.
Backs the Brazilian G20 Presidency proposal to tax the super-rich internationally, alongside Minister Fernando Haddad.
Utmost respect to Senator and to Rep. Ilhan Omar for their leadership. Proud for Oxfam International to be part of this.
We can do this.
Good to see this, but I would add a CRUCIAL point 11:
DROP harmful loan conditions that emphasize “fiscal consolidation” (austerity), to free up fiscal and policy space for investment in people & climate

'The #US told countries: 'you can't have industrial policies.' But we had very strong industrial policies. We developed a strong pharma industry, we promoted the financial sector. We did what we told other countries not to do,' said Joseph E. Stiglitz.
