This and other policy coming out of the Administration reflects how deliberately they are trying to shift the balance of power towards workers and away from big business. That should be the dominant governing paradigm for the whole Democratic party. thehill.com/business/46154…

New from me & Steph Sterling: let's take seriously the relationship between the economy Americans want and the political system needed to get there.

Only way is real democratic change - to the courts, the Senate, proportional representation.

Rich countries espouse active industrial policy at home while continuing to impose outdated policies abroad.

Rana Foroohar's opinion piece in today's Financial Times is a must-read.

As the fiscal policy of rich countries is changing to support re-industrialisation and climate transition at home, global financial markets are still focused on maximising short-term profit, and IFIs on imposing outdated Washington Consensus prescriptions.

Check out this whole thread. Look at the way the noncompete rule includes stories of real people. Government-speak shouldn’t be for technocrats. Government should reflect the lives of the people it works for. It should be accountable to their needs. This is how it should look.

In 2020, I wrote a blueprint for a Biden trust-busting Presidency. The FTC and DOJ have surpassed expectations. But the linchpin, the key first move, the path laid out by Sandeep Vaheesan --banning the scourge of noncompetes--that is happening today.

To recap,FTC's rule banning non-competes is expected to:
💸 Increase wages up to $488B
❤️‍🩹Reduce healthcare costs up to $194B
🚀Result in 8,500 new business starts per year

Tremendous W for American workers and entrepreneurs, any way you slice it.

BREAKING: The FTC just banned non-compete agreements.

The Federal Trade Commission has issued a final rule making it illegal for bosses to make workers sign noncompetes in any scenario, and voiding nearly all existing noncompetes.

This is a game changer for American workers.

‼️Dream job alert ‼️

If we are serious about a new political economy, this requires a new knowledge infrastructure. The Global Fund for a New Economy does just that: catalyze change globally. They are hiring a Chief Economist, a key role. For more: bit.ly/4akiGSB

My read of the initial reactions to FTC non-compete ban:

Everyone seems to love it, except for Big Law attorneys, corporate lobbyists, and their favorite antitrust professors

Can you believe we live in a world where a Starbucks worker can't seek other barista jobs because of a so-called 'non-compete' clause? Outrageous! I applaud the Federal Trade Commission for banning non-compete clauses. Once again, Chair Khan is delivering for working people.
