At this point, my expectations are low/demands simple--If your software only meaningfully works with Chrome please put a large flashing sign on it that says so.

We are looking for professional VR designers/developers, prior experience creating educational VR apps a strong plus. This is not contract or project work but you'll be paid. We are looking to recruit participants for a co-design user study where you'd work with an instructor RT!

So many of the ideas in this thread are journalism like the exps we prototyped at Knight Lab. I ❤️that stuff. I just don't know how its viable when most XR content is harvesting data for a company that makes it v. difficult to fund + distribute journalism in a meaningful way

Whatever FB is unveiling today is going to suck, because 1.0 tech sucks. But that’s not what’s interesting. What’s interesting is that “killing the physical office” is now both a bottom-up cultural movement and top-down technological movement

TIL humans comprehend each others' emotions via the physical sensation of mimicking facial expressions + studies have shown folks are less empathetic when they've recently received Botox bc of this and now I understand The Real Housewives of New York City in a whole new light

"Most museum objects finish their lives in a collection- this is the story of the opposite." On September 25th, 2019, the Tlingit Kiks.ádi clan of Sitka, Alaska, conducted ceremonies to dedicate a new clan crest hat—only this hat was not really new. Watch the beautiful story here

Whether the people who consume immersive media are users/participants/experiencers/co-creators/whatevers, isn't about how much "empathy" the developer has for them--it's whether the business model underpinning the work requires selling their non-market actions to 3rd parties

I like this framing bc even if I'm not sure it's true, it's both optimistic and useful “The Rules are already generally embraced by many in principle. They may not be embraced by all. It doesn’t matter, for they describe an inevitability.”  Tony Parisi medium.com/meta-verses/th…

The thing about trying to monetize interactive experiences the same way we monetize social media, is that making even bad interactive experiences requires a lot more effort from humans than shitposting (also the corrosive to brains/democracy thing)

The Jeremy Strong thing is just an Oregon Trail Generation misunderstanding. Strong, Gen X, is embarrassed to be exposed as an aggressively professional try-hard. Schulman, a Millennial doesn't see it as unflattering bc literally all of us are that.

People who make software--what's the tool you've used the longest? Why have you stuck with it (define tool however you'd like)

Rebecca Poulson (@rebeccapoulson) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Trying a thing where whenever I catch myself doomscrolling I write a quick "thank you" email or DM to someone I appreciate. It feels silly sometimes but has a pretty positive impact on my mood & ability to focus

How much free labor do Reddit moderators provide for Reddit every year? And what are the characteristics of this labor? Our two papers will appear at ICWSM next week to answer these two questions (w/ Brent Hecht and Stevie Chancellor is elsewhere (see pinned))! arxiv.org/abs/2205.14529 and arxiv.org/abs/2205.14528
