Important training note: pseudo code and sudo code are very different things. Don’t tell a mentee that practicing their pseudo code will help them with python without clarifying 🤣🤣🤣

I’m excited to share that my first journal article was published today in Molecular Ecology! Check it out, it's titled “Multisensory integration by polymodal sensory neurons dictates larval settlement in a brainless cnidarian larva” onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

Why are we still using email addresses for corresponding authorship instead of ORCIDs? Didn’t we start using ORCIDs because we recognized that institutions/email addresses change? Half my reviewer logins are ORCID now. Why not use these for authors? Solves a lot of corr. issues…

So many fond memories of Martha and her mushroom jokes, and the way her biology honors students embraced the challenge of her class with passion. She was a joyful person, a joy to be around, and also a fantastic teacher and scientist. 🍄

Introducing meiofauna to my students “Hope they find good stuff so they love it”. Students five minutes in “hey look an aplacophoran! Oh a halacarid! Look at this nematode cuticle! This platyhelminth has cute eyes! Check the statocyst on this acoel!” Me 🥺😲😍 They are amazing!

So excited to have this out! Such a privilege to work with this amazing group of scientists; every single one of them was vital to making this happen! You never know what might be 'critical' in guiding evolution's paths!

Chromosome-scale genome structure evolution is a dynamic new field - but seeing three manuscripts submitted within 7 days nearly analysing the same dataset (with focus on annelids) is kind of crazy... Darrin Schultz, Rosa Fernández, Yi-Jyun Luo you could fill your own special issue!

Some things stay with you all the way through academia. Like this Sigma-Aldrich box. It was a lab discard when I was a sophomore at UC Davis. It’s moved me 8 times, across town & country, BS,MS,PhD,Postdoc. And it just moved me into my new faculty office. It’s a quality box.

I saved a bunch of letters of recommendation to write today. Instead of watching the news, I am focusing on hope, joy, and finding synonyms for “inspiring”. This is the best decision I’ve made in a while.
