Surely, defrosting and warming shall follow me
all the days of my life and I shall dwell

But death struck my husband
with a lizard-quick tongue.
Snatched him as he was reading,
a torn theater stub tucked between pages
marking his place.

Lock the door, lie on the floor, stare at the ceiling,
the new plaster sky that is yours to paint anew
and a future you will make from someone else’s past.

As promised, here is the list of journals/lit mags that publish <10% solicited submissions. I'll update this list on a rolling basis, but please comment on my OP to help me keep track. This list is also in my bio. Enjoy!

This week's Rattlecast prompt was to write an ekphrastic poem about your favorite painting. I'm not sure which is my favorite painting, but Katie Dozier and I came across Eastman Johnson's The Cranberry Harvest at a museum last year, and I found it strangely arresting. 1/4

For anyone working on their Ekphrastic prompt poem to submit to Rattle by the end of the month—and hopefully share with us live on the Prompt Lines tomorrow night—here’s the latest episode of The Poetry Space_. Hope it inspired you as much as it did me!

This is my favorite kind of poem to get to write. When two very different things popped up in my life—1. A painting, courtesy of my Rattle prompt this week, and 2. A cool fact my daughter told me—I knew there was some connection between them. I wrote towards it, surprised myself!

I go for one walk, sometimes two, daily,
just for research’s sake. Just to see, like some
crystalline anthropologist from the future, if
the present is like I imagine it …

fees w subscriptions is the only way to go (+ seems like credit for spread of that model is to Rattle).

but $30 is still a lot, per contest. (not uncommon.) one-off judges + unknown first readers (before getting to judge) are destabilizers.

how do ppl know where to sub?
