In January 2022, we worked on the eastern section of Bellewaardestraat at its intersection with Frezenbergstraat. Unfortunately, the preservation of the features was not ideal, primarily due to post-war battlefield clearances, with the exception of the bunker near Surbiton Villas

In April, we were very close to Clapham Junction, in Oude Kortrijkstraat, just north of the Menin Road where we uncovered the original road pavement, which was riddled by numerous bomb craters. Within them, well-preserved items such as crates, Lewis gun drums, and various kit

Most extraordinary was the grouser spud from a Mark IV tank. We knew from aerials that one stranded next to the road, but actually finding a piece was very special. Identified as tank 2668, B49 Britannia. Many pictures of it can be found. The plaque was likely connected to it too

In August we were at Westhoek where we found a German trench, known as Jabber trench. The excavation showed that it was turned when captured by Commonwealth forces in August 1917. The ditch in front of the trench proofs that they dug themselves in in the parapet

Besides the turning of the trench, several other locations and finds that testified to the fierce battle that had raged here in extremely difficult circumstances, were discovered

Last December and January we were between Westhoek and the old railway where the preservation of the features again was not good, except for a few trench segments and of course the SMLE we found the last day.
