We are saddened today to report the passing of Alex J. Walling. He was a respected sportscaster and broadcaster who founded QCCR Radio in 2008. We are extremely grateful for his foresight in bringing community radio to Queens, and extend our sincere condolences to his family.

Chad Allan, who carved a place in Canadian rock music history as co-founder of iconic bands the Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, has died at 80. Born Allan Kowbel on March 29, 1943 he adopted the stage name Chad Allan, and formed his first band in high school in Winnipeg.

English artist Denny Laine has passed away at the age of 79. Born Brian Hines, he grew up in Birmingham and was a member of the Moody Blues and Wings. He co-wrote the Wings hit song Mull of Kintyre, one of the biggest singles in British history.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born Jan. 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi. On July 5, 1954 he recorded Arthur Crudup's blues song "That's All Right". On July 8 popular Memphis DJ Dewey Phillips played it, and he was reborn as the King of Rock and Roll, of which there can only be one.

David Robert Jones was born on 8 January 1947 in Brixton. Regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, upon listening to Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti", he later said that he had "heard God". He idolized Elvis Presley, also born Jan. 8th, as a child.

Iconic broadcaster Frank Cameron has passed away at 85. He worked at CKEC radio in New Glasgow, CKCL radio in Truro, CHNS, the CBC, where he hosted "Music Hop", as well as the Halifax version “Frank’s Bandstand.” Most recently he contributed to our sister station SEASIDE FM 1059

Joe Flaherty's iconic characters on SCTV helped define a generation: The seedy Vic Hedges, Count Floyd on Monster Chiller Horror Theatre, with John Candy on the “he blowed up real good” film critic segment Jim McBob, Sammy Maudlin, and Manager Guy Caballero. Mr. Flaherty was 82.

Renowned Prism drummer Gary Wanstall, known as Rocket Norton, passed away last week after a two-year-long battle with cancer at the age of 73. He had a long and illustrious musical career and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer research and care in recent years.
