Instructive visit to youth prison in Norway - single figure numbers of inmates nationally - very rarely used and when it is there is huge focus on rehabilitation & therapeutic support & team around the child. The contrast with the English system is stark & improved outcomes

Spent my last morning in Oslo at the Barnahus with staff & Oslo chief of Police - great support for child victims & perpetrators of any serious crime inc. CSA & violent crime. Good to see how these services are now integral to the experience of children & embedded nationally.

Great opportunity to see how Barnahus is embedded in Norwegian children’s services. The Lighthouse delivered by the UCLH NHS Trust is Englands only Barnahus. Supporter by Dame Rachel’s advocacy we want all children to have access to Barnahus services in their recovery from CSA.

This is so important - missing the first few days of term has a huge impact on overall attendance. Children want to be in school but too many face barriers – we urgently need better mental health services in schools, faster SEND support & a unique ID to identify at-risk children.

This is a major step fwd. Heads & school leaders need confidence that inspections fairly reflect the complex realities of school life with children’s experiences at their heart.These plans must now be supported by measures that foster a positive dialogue between schools & Ofsted.

The BBC has found more than 90 private tutors in the UK have been convicted of sexual offences involving children over the past 20 years. On #BBCBreakfast the children’s commissioner for England called for reform of the system as it doesn't require people offering private

This loophole is deeply concerning. Anyone working 1on1 with a child as a tutor should have have a DBS criminal record check, as the absolute bare minimum. Whatever the setting, children need to be kept safe - it has to be a safeguarding priority. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
