Our notable increase in #COVID19 cases over the last few days and our first death in Pennsylvania indicate we need everyone to take COVID-19 seriously. Pennsylvanians have a very important job right now: stay calm, stay home and stay safe. #SocialDistancing #StayHome

The #PAHouse just voted unanimously to adopt emergency #COVID19 education legislation that helps students learn, keeps schools funded, & adds clarity to the school year. It reflects a shared commitment to keep students safe, healthy, and learning. The bill goes to the #PASenate.

Today is #2020Census Day. It’s estimated that for each Pennsylvanian who is not counted, their community loses $2,093 in federal funding each year. Over the 10 year period, this amounts to $20,930 per person. Visit 2020census.gov and #GetCounted! U.S. Census Bureau

While we are unable to come together with our families, we have come together as a state and nation to reinforce that the only way through this is with each other, even though we are physically apart. We will get through this because of each other and we will be stronger for it.

I know there are many lists/things to read, but wanted to share. My summer reading group (K-12 educators, leaders, activists & profs) read this book and chatted about the #antiracist #decolonizeeducation concrete steps for teacher Ed. Would love to hear what you’re reading!

This sounds like a statistic I've heard around schools for years. "10% of the teachers write 90% of the referrals." Principals/Assistant Principals/Deans, please deal with the 10%. You know who they are - and so do our students. #BlackStudentsMatter #decolonizeeducation

In ed spaces, "low-income" is used w/regularity as a descriptor of stds, fams, & bkgrnds. What's a low-income std? Why do we make a condition the way we name stds? bkgrnds? fams? "Equity" & anti-racist folks are just as guilty as others. We hv to chng our lens & lang.

#OTD in 1920 the 19th Amendment was ratified, granting white women the right to vote. As we celebrate this important milestone, we’re also reflecting on the long history of barriers to voting rights. #womensvote100 ow.ly/2BA850B35LL

My big takeaway from EDU 599 this summer: when you plan and develop policies & strategies that think of your students from traditionally disenfranchised communities first, you are doing the work.

Really appreciated all of the conversation & thoughts shared in classes over the last few weeks. Our kids care about their nation & their democracy. ❤ The future is bright!
