Did it! After walking 102 miles over rolling English countryside - past medieval churches, historic stately homes, battle fields & ancient burial grounds - I finally finished the Cotswold Way Association! Been tough at times, but so worth it. The official finish marker outside Bath Abbey.

People with MS are far less likely to have Alzheimer's disease, a US study in Annals of Neurology says. The authors - led by Matthew Brier - found MS patients had far fewer amyloid plaques, a hallmark of Alzheimer's, vs adults without MS. Women who were obese during adolescence have a greater risk of developing MS (& greater inflammation) - but not men, a OMRF study has found. This may help explain why women comprise about 80% of new MS cases, acc to National National MS Society. Cell Metabolism bit.ly/4dVgYZO

His hypothesis is that treatments to shorten IM period of illness & severity reduces MS risk. "How many of u had IM? Imagine if ur IM was promptly diagnosed & treated with an effective antiviral? Maybe u would not have developed MS. Wouldn’t that be a fantastic story to tell?"

Prof G Gavin Giovannoni, aka Prof G has stopped seeing MS patients so as to devote his time looking at the EBV/MS link. In particular, the role of infectious mononucleosis (IM) plays. "IM increases one’s risk of getting MS. However, the mechanism of IM increasing MS risk is unknown."

Congrats to Sarah Adam, 1st woman ever to play on TeamUSA's wheelchair rugby team at the #paraolympics2024. She was diagnosed with MS in 2016 - at 25. "With my MS, I'm constantly told to be careful & take it easy & don't overdo it. In rugby I can show, I don't have to do that."

Breakthrough for treating secondary progressive MS! Phase 3 trial for BTK inhibitor, Tolebrutinib, significantly delayed disability progression in ppl with non-relapsing SPMS/smouldering MS. Currently there are NO approved therapies. Sanofi to release more details @ECTRIMS2024.
