Scoop w/ Kevin McLaughlin & Stephanie Palazzolo: Reflection AI is raising $1B to make the U.S. a leader in open-source AI—offering an alternative to China’s DeepSeek and France’s Mistral theinformation.com/articles/refle…

Vanderbilt's interdisciplinary AI lab Vanderbilt Lab for Immersive AI Translation is organizing AI Summer School, Aug. 11-14. The program is really good, and registration is free. I'm leading a session on the political economy of AI. If you're in Nashville and interested, come join. Link below.

One reason I enjoy working in AI governance is the close relationship between thorny epistemic problems and their immediate practical effects. Kati Kish Bar-On's research on AI + mathematical knowledge is a good example of this. Definitely looking forward to seeing this project

Thanks for having me on to explore - according to illustrious host Ryan Hauser - " how a policy meant to prevent regulatory chaos may have guaranteed it" The AI moratorium was a good idea, poorly executed. We need a populist vision for shared AI prosperity that cuts across party

Couldn't have asked for two better guests than Lauren Wagner and Matt Mittelsteadt for Machine Culture's first convo on the failed AI moratorium. More to come!
