While Tómas and our other Icelandic friends wait for spring, they would like birdwatchers in Britain & Ireland to look out for their colour-ringed #waders. Two blogs about fascinating research. RSPB Medmerry saw the largest realignment of open coast ever undertaken in Europe. The site is now a haven for species such as avocets, little ringed plovers and oystercatchers. The creation of this habitat has also provided a flood defence for nearby coastal communities.

Nature-based solutions are an essential part of tackling the nature and climate emergency. Not only do they help wildlife, but they help to lock up carbon and adapt to the impacts of a changing climate. We need to see leaders at COP26 embrace the role of nature in climate action.

A skein of dark-bellied brent geese flying over North Wall at Pagham harbour on Tuesday afternoon 😍 So why is it called a skein of geese 🤔 Migrating geese form lines or V's that reminded someone long ago of a skein or length of yarn 🙂 LIFEOnTheEdge RSPB Chichester Local Group

With our coastline busy with winter shorebirds, we're grateful for the help of visitors and dogs and their owners who help keep our winter birds safe.

A curlew and whimbrel seen from the path at Church Norton today 😍 Please remember to give our birds lots of space so they don't waste valuable energy with a disturbance flight. They need this valuable energy to help them survive our winter 😱 RSPB Chichester Local Group Chichester District Council

Some estuaries in eastern England - especially in the NE - have seen increases in #Curlew numbers, despite major national declines. Why? Latest research from BTO: wadertales.wordpress.com/2022/04/21/cur… #waders #shorebirds #ornithology

Breeding season is well underway for Mallards but many are still looking for just the right spot to snuggle down. In spring you'll often see them walking around new areas 🦆
