The Retained EU Law Bill risks discarding hundreds of laws that originated in the EU by the end of next year, including potentially ripping up precious environmental protections - such as the Habitats Regulations that safeguard our most important wildlife and wild places. 2/8

The UK Gov binning these laws would be a direct threat to nature in Wales because these protections underpin UK Government decision making about big infrastructure projects in Wales. Removing them could make it easier for these to go ahead in places that may damage wildlife. 3/8

UK Gov also announced the creation of new ‘Investment Zones’ where regulations will be removed to facilitate faster development. The intention is to discuss creating zones in Wales with Welsh Government, meaning fundamental protections for wildlife could be torn up in areas. 4/8

Although Wales is renowned for its beauty and spectacular wildlife, it’s still one of the most nature depleted countries of the world. In terms of how much biodiversity we have left, Wales is currently ranked 16t from the bottom of a list of 240 countries! 5/8
