Inferior digital products. Spotty customer service. A weakened newspaper when a runway of print revenue remains.

The Buffalo Newspaper Guild and United Media Guild, as Lee Enterprises shareholders, demand more of the company on behalf of the communities where Lee owns news operations.

To the reporters: the vultures at the top who slash apart newsrooms are just that. They see a financially tough industry and instead of investing in the product, they tear it apart until it’s either dead or a shell of what it needs to be.

I’ve been part of a mass layoff from a newsroom.

Three times, my online body of work as a reporter vanished b/c mgmt screwed up. (This part of why I’m a hardliner on *printed* public notices and pulled online notice bills out of the uncontested bloc twice to vote against them.)

The demise of DCist and contracting of WAMU is a disservice for readers, listeners, policymakers and the entire D/M/V.

Ex: Margaret Barthel’s data center coverage has been essential public policy reporting. Now, we can’t even access *archived* stories, let alone expect new ones.

Now our newsroom is even smaller. Let our general manager and her boss know that you stand by #WeMakeWAMU and public media at [email protected] and [email protected].

This morning, WAMU 88.5 management informed us they are laying off 15 vital people from our organization. These individuals are the lifeblood of our journalism. Our hearts are broken. We can’t believe we are losing our colleagues and friends.
