I changed trains at Sheffield this morning and was pleased to see the completed works undertaken by East Midlands Railway (EMR) to improve the entrance onto Platform 1 - we provided a grant to assist with these works to reveal original features of the station.

Two steam trains on Shap this morning; Britannia providing the better visual spectacle working Saphos Trains from Leicester to Carlisle; Tangmere working the Northern Belle from Liverpool to Carlisle immediately afterwards

The LNER served Antwerp, so I don't think it's surprising that they left something there.

What's interesting is the many comments of 'what's it doing there?'

Maybe this reflects an erroneous perception of UK rail history as a national affair, when it was hugely international.

It's the weekend and time to get away from it all. In 1969 the Tuesday Documentary series made a film about the progress of the UK's railway network, including the modern new station at London Euston which had opened the previous year.
