Tom Painting served with the KRRC before the start of WWI. He was taken prisoner in 1914, and in 1915 escaped a German prisoner-of-war camp with three comrades. During his year-long journey back home, his paybook and its contents deflected a bullet.

A museum's work is never done! More #behindthescenes today as we make sure that the pistols in our reserve collection are clean, free of rust and mould, and all stored correctly!

Who did it best - Yusuf Dikec or our Museum Assistant Michael with this four barrel Lancaster Pistol from c. 1833? (This gun is of course both unloaded and deactivated, please don't play around with guns which are at risk of firing!)

This illustration by J. Jones is from "The Rifle Manual and Firing" (1804), which is on display in the Museum. It shows a variety of positions from which to fire a Rifle, including kneeling, sitting, supine, and using your hat! Which do you think looks most comfortable?
