Sigh. Okay, here goes…👇🏾
I’m sharing how I avoided all these side effects of chemotherapy during my treatments.
Caveat: This is all to help someone else and not to say the lady is the same as me.

I know people die from these side effects, so I’m sharing to educate people and

1. Black tongue and loss of appetite.
Picture is of my mouth care kit.
As soon as you know you will need chemotherapy?
✅ Go to the dentist and get your teeth cleaned.
✅Switch to a BABY toothbrush
✅Get gentle and non-alcoholic mouthwash. Use this after EVERY meal and snack

2. Loss of Hair.
My hair grew during chemo (pics 1-4).
I had locs but cut it all off before chemo Day 1. But it grew by the time I was done. My doctors were baffled. Because 👇🏾
The type of chemotherapy I got is called Red Devil by survivors (because it looks like Rosé).

Your white blood cells will be under attack during chemotherapy. It’s why you have to safeguard against losing any of these soldiers because low white blood cells means low immunity. Once you get any infection, your body will need to deplete the cells you

4. Black nails:
Chemotherapy messes with all cells, including the cells responsible for regulating our hormones and complexion. Your skin becomes very sensitive to light.
Before you start treatment?
✅Load up on sunscreen. Make sure you rub it on your hands regularly especially

4. Dry itchy skin:
Chemotherapy is a drying treatment. Your nose, eyes mouth and skin will be dry.
For body skin?
✅Drink water. May be hard to drink but you can try adding cucumbers or a little ginger to alter the taste if you’re nauseous
✅Also get fluids in by making your food

5. Severe exhaustion:
This one is very true and the only way out is to try and het ahead of it by “training” the muscle and body. That’s what the people who coached me called it.
What did they tell me to do?
✅Train your brain with puzzles and crosswords. I used to carry sudoku

6. Photophobia:
Chemo will literally singe your tear ducts, eyelashes and eyebrows and you’ll likely have none.
Your naked eyes are very sensitive and what they need (like your nails and skin) is protection from sunlight and bright flares.
What to do?
✅Definitely use sunglasses

So there it is. I hope this helps.
Chemo has saved my life.
It has bought me more time: a chance to live beyond what was my 36th birthday, six years ago.
Don’t be afraid; seek information and strive for early detection.
To all the survivors out there, I know it’s not easy
