Absolutely seen a change in content. Much less science. But still enjoy the X scientific community and hearing about what everyone has been up to!

What I can’t stop thinking about: the 90s could have seen the first ever weight loss drug, curbing obesity over decades. Imagine the tens-hundreds of millions of person-years extended throughout the world (& better QOL). All unrealized because a lack of foresight and bad luck.

The science arms race continues… now faculty job postings explicitly “expect” K-equivalent funding. I’m concerned that a K99/R00 is becoming the benchmark for getting a job, even without it being listed. I really hope that’s not the case, but the bar seems to keep rising.

AI can be used to make convincing looking fake data. There is no way we can distinguish real from fake anymore. It is safe to assume that genAI has already resulted in many fake papers. Scientific publishing is not prepared for this.

Incredibly pleased to share our recent work on the development of iHSCs- a story that started before my time and it’s been an honour generating blue MLE mice. 🐁 🧫 congratulations to Elizabeth , Andrew, Ed and the labs! nature.com/articles/s4158… Thread coming soon! 🧵

Congrats to my postdoc Cecilia Pessoa Rodrigues on her Science paper. We show that dsRNAs from endogenous viral elements bind to TLR3, inducing the don't eat me signal, B2m, on HSCs. This protects the stem cell from phagocytosis by macrophages. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
