Gasteria armstrongii Though widely grown as a potted plant, Gasteria armstrongii is quite rare in nature, occurring in coastal plains in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province. It's a dwarf ground-hugging species, & is typically hiding among grasses & small shrubs. -Brian(Curator)

Plant Highlight: Astrophytum ornatum Although A. ornatum comes from a part of Mexico where the rainfall occurs mostly in summer to autumn, it can tolerate winter rainfall if the drainage is excellent. - Brian (Curator)

Ruth received this cactus many years ago under the name Cleistocactus buchtienii, and while it is certainly a Cleistocactus, it does not match photos of that species. It looks more like Cleistocactus tominensis subspecies micropetalus, so I suspect it is that. - Brian (Curator)
