We’re deeply saddened to hear of 2 cyclist deaths this weekend. Gloria San Miguel was killed while biking on the 12th St Bridge in Covington on Fri night. Another bicyclist was killed in Indian Hill on Sat morning at Given Rd / Beech Tr. These senseless deaths are preventable.

Congratulations to City of Covington, KY City of Newport and KYTC District 6 for approving a two way protected bike lane on the 11th St/ Girl Scout Bridge! This will improve safety for all road users including people on wheels, people walking, and people in cars.

The #completestreets policy will require DOTE to design accommodations for all roadway users - especially our most vulnerable users like pedestrians, cyclists, individuals using mobility devices, and transit riders - whenever a street is being repaved or redesigned.

This Wednesday the City of Cincinnati is poised to pass a Complete Streets Ordinance that will start to bend the curve on designing streets for people - safety over speed. At least in this city there is the political will - now we just need to do it!

Facts: fewest pedestrian crashes in at least 9 years Progress. Thx Cincy Pedestrian and Bike Program Cincinnati Police Department, my colleagues & Aftab Pureval for your work on it. This happens because of investments in engineering, enforcement & education. It's a step forward, but more to be done for Safer Streets

We've installed Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPIs) at 4 intersections in the Northside NBD. LPIs allow peds to enter the crosswalk 3-7 seconds before vehicles are given a green light. This headstart can make peds more visible to turning cars and reduce crashes by up to 60%.
