Today is #KatherineJohnson's birthday! She was an amazing scientist that quietly revolutionized her field for #women of color. We're working on a book that collects her most important publications with #NASA: quaternionbooks.com/the-human-comp…

We haven't been tweeting for a while, but we find it compelling to remember that today, January 28, 1873, the French chemist Louis Pasteur obtained patent No. 135,245 for a process of "Improvement of Brewing of Beer and Ale."

A few days ago the #Voyager2 passed the 18 light-hours distance from the Sun. That is about 4 light-seconds per day, on average, since the beginning of its journey in 1977. Still a long long way from any star beyond the solar system.

We have prepared #python code to reproduce some of Katherine Johnson's calculations at #NASA: the Moon's gravitational potential, the re-entry orbit of a satellite (used to support John Glenn's mission), and much more. Interested? Contact us to know how to access the repository!

Today is the anniversary of the death of Toshiko Yuasa, the first Japanese female physicist. She worked on radioactivity during the difficult times of World War II and made big efforts to educate and encourage young female students in Japan. #WomenInScience #WomenInSTEM

On this day of 2021, the International Astronomical Union named a crater on the Moon after Annie Easley. She was one of the first African Americans to work at NASA where she held a position as mathematician and rocket scientist. #WomenInScience #WomenInSTEM #BlackHistoryMonth

Sir John Herschel in around 1869 - Original and restoration. English astronomer and mathematician. Another photo restore - this one took more work with 1-2hrs manually correcting damage and artifacts. I also colourised this based on a painting of him some years earlier.

Sorting through some older images, image from 2005 clearly shows proper motion of Alpha Centauri compared to a photo a few nights ago. The FOV is 30x30' (ie would just frame the moon)

Our book on #KatherineJohnson's science is ready. We are very proud of what we did. Thanks to all people that made this possible! #WomenInScience #BlackHistoryMonth

You’ve probably heard of Alan Turing and Gordon Welchman, but have you heard of Mavis Batey and Margaret Rock? 8,000 women worked around the clock at Bletchley Park during WWII, deciphering enemy messages and providing the critical support for codebreake… instagr.am/p/CcQ30ydowGH/

Did you know, the German Enigma encryption machine had 103 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 possible settings for encoding messages. For much of the war it was thought to be unbreakable. . . . #codebreaking #bletchleygirls #codebreakinggirls #femalecodebreake… instagr.am/p/CeavN9yIa-J/
