Serrano is such a credit to women's boxing. She's trying to evolve the sport while the WBC wants to hold it back with their BS pseudo-science. Make the women's WBC belts irrelevant until they approve 12 x 3min fights.

Boxing is a dynamic and evolving sport. It can be easy to forget that in an era of strict rules and conventions. Big money & big crowds moved the sport towards a particular kind of iterated agon. But boxing didn't always look this way, & it will continue to change & grow. 1/5

The majority of your sparring should be playful, fun, and retarded It’s called martial ARTS for a reason Even when you’re fighting, find joy, gratitude, and light (but true)-hearted creativity You will learn faster, become more self-aware, level up and perform better

We've been quiet lately, but working on medieval and early modern boxing. There's wonderful Irish material, for instance. Some very good books on the early development of English bare knuckle boxing have come out quite recently. We'll be reviewing those along the way for you.

It's worth taking less than five minutes of anyone’s time to learn how to properly make a fist. No monkey paws, no loose thumb. It could save your life, or at least your peers’ respect. As good a source as any: youtube.com/watch?v=yIcQcD…

Once I was deep in the flow of boxing, so deep that when I struck it felt like ringing out the letters of my name from a bell. I'm always chasing that resonance again.

The “gut punch” can refer to a few different blows. Typically you would use this to refer to a low hook, an uppercut to the body, or the hybrid “shovel hook”. The gold standard hits the liver (vagus nerve) which drops an opponent to the ground. Solar plexus is great but elusive.

A bit of lore: The Latin-language journal “Retiarius: Archivum Recentioris Latinitatis” was the inspiration for starting Scholia Pugillātōria (you can just do things). mcl.as.uky.edu/ma-cla-retiari…
