We’re going to be “undisciplining the academic conference” with some gentle, tech-enabled, anarchic ethnomethodological interventions to better understand the work of *networking, *access, and *navigation. Check it out, should be fun! #EMCA

#EMCA Paper alert🚨 My article about police encounters involving less-than-competent subjects was published in The British Journal of #Criminology: doi.org/10.1093/bjc/az… It examines how officers improvise methods to manage troublesome responses to their queries and directives

Experimenting with the new stretcher system which reduces the fulcrum effect when going over a sheer edge. MR practice at its best is about reflexive methods of adaptation of core principles, not prescribed ways of doing. #fieldwork #EMCA #uniqueadequacyofmethods

I’ve been promoted to Professor. It’s odd sharing good news ((gestures at the hellscape)) but there are a good few people on here who have been involved in that and I want to say thanks to you all. Let’s keep doing the work, together #EMCA #Sociology #Ethnography

Just received directions in Nottingham that included the phrase “jitter way” to refer to a small back street. Hadn’t heard that one before.

Terry Au-Yeung and Robin Smith's #ForensicCA2024 presentation shows how a police PR statement after a racialised assault by police officers works to destabilise/dilute the moral accountability of the police officer actions as constructed by quote tweets of the viral video #EMCA

A really productive session discussing ways to undiscipline the academic conference via insights developed from the in situ relevancies and troubles prompted by Phil Brooker’s “ethnomethodological lanyards”. @TheSocReview #undiscipliningII #EMCA

Muslim community in Butetown/Tiger Bay has been here for almost 200 years. One of the oldest multicultural communities in the UK. Woven into our history since mid 19th Century. Online bigots who know nothing about the history & communities of Cardiff/Wales should pick up a book.

NEW: ‘A Cartography of Genocide’. Since October 2023, we have collected and analysed data related to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. Our findings indicate that Israel has systematically targeted all aspects of civilian life. tinyurl.com/bdcrnzka

University crisis latest, and very bad indeed: Cardiff are proposing to cut 7% of their academics, and to drop a whole array of programmes including ancient history, modern languages and music. Predictable and yet still shocking. 1/4

Georgy Kantor (@georgykantor) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The economics of this are well-known: the University overheads grow, get distributed between departments, driving some of them into deficit outside their control. Deficit departments get cut, income they bring in disappears, but overheads on buildings and central admin stay. 2/4

Capped off this grim day for myself & colleagues at Cardiff Uni with an interview on BBC Wales Today representing Cardiff UCU✊🌱. These cuts are cruel & unnecessary - we will fight them. UCU youtu.be/bZ5gJ9l2HDM?si…
